On April 5-6, Trade Representative Mr. Sergei Rossomakhov was on a business trip in Pontianak (West Kalimantan province), where he met with the Secretary of the Provincial Administration Mr. A.L. Leysandri, heads of the government’s agencies, Deputy Bupati of the Mempawah regency, and also visited the Mempawah industrial zone which is being constructed as well as conducted a site visit to the multimodal sea port of Kijing.

The Government of West Kalimantan welcomed the development of deeper cooperation with the Russian regions. Perspective areas of collaboration with the province are as follows: mining (West Kalimantan is rich with mineral resources, including deposits of coal, bauxite, nickel, gold, diamonds, uranium, and barite), renewable energy (mini-hydroelectric power plants, solar power generation), transport infrastructure (construction of roads, bridges, airports and seaports), information & communication technologies (Internet coverage in remote areas), agriculture, fish processing industry, education and tourism.
